Russia is a nation with a long tradition in literature, book printing and an antiquarian book trade which is more and more concentrating on high end bookshops with an international perspective. The Moscow State University of Printing Arts has a Book Business Department where Professor Olga Tarakanova holds lectures on the history, structure and future of the rare book trade. For the past twenty years the University has been running degree courses in antiquarian bookselling. And it was thanks to the good relations between Professor Olga Tarakanova, Norbert Donhofer and Eric Waschke that in 2011 the ILAB Internship Program was founded. In May 2011 the first Russian dealers spent four weeks in Hungary, Austria, Germany and The Netherlands to work with ILAB dealers and to learn about the European antiquarian book trade. In October 2011 another young Russian bookseller goes to Australia for a three weeks internship at Hordern House and Cornstalk Bookshop.
In 2007 “Pro-Knigi” (www.aboutbooks.ru) published its first issue. The Russian magazine for bibliophiles focuses on antiquarian books, manuscripts, engravings and book-plates with articles about the history of books and printing, interviews, memoirs and stories about book collecting and libraries, as well as reviews of Russian and international auctions.
